C.L. Schneider Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you from?

We are located in Warren, Michigan, a suburb bordering the north side of Detroit.

Do you have your own store?

We currently work out of our residence, and do not have a showroom. However, you can visit any of the boutiques or galleries listed on the website. All locations carry an assortment of pendants, and several carry a limited quantity of earrings. Only a few locations carry the larger pieces, such as necklaces and bracelets.

Where can I see your work?

The best way to see my work is to attend one of our exhibitions at an art/craft show. You can view our schedule on the website, click on "Exhibitions" to view the list. Another option would be to attend a trunk show or special event. Though not as frequent, many times these events are held on a weekday rather than a weekend. These events will also be listed on our "Exhibitions" page.

Do you do custom work?

Yes! Please contact me if you are interested in a special piece of jewelry. I will do my best to accommodate your needs regarding gemstone type and color, as well as the design aspect of the piece. Send email inquiries to: carl@clschneider.com or call 586-945-7512.

Do you use real stones?

I use only semi-precious gemstones, pearls, abalone, coral, fossils, and other stones found in nature, such as lava rock. I am very drawn to the organic qualities of natural gemstones.

Do you cut and polish the stones?

My passion is designing and creating the finished piece of jewelry. I spend a great deal of time on research as I am very meticulous about color, texture, and quality and I continuously seek out unique and beautiful gemstones. I purchase the gemstones which are already cut, polished, and drilled. Lapidary (cutting and polishing) is a very unique artistry involving specialized skills and equipment.

Where do you get your gemstones?

I attain local gemstones whenever possible. Also, I have longstanding and reliable partnerships with many global sources, which means the gemstones come from all over the world including North America. My focus and passion is in designing and creating the unique and beautiful finished jewelry, not necessarily the origin of the gemstones.

Do you use sterling silver?

I use only sterling silver and 14K gold-fill, no base metals. All findings are sterling silver or 14K gold-fill. 18K gold is available on request; please contact me for more information. Send email inquiries to: carl@clschneider.com

How should I clean and care for my new jewelry?

A polishing cloth will work very nicely on the silver. For more intricate pieces, use a soft toothbrush and a mild dish soap solution and air dry. We do not recommend using chemical tarnish removers as this may damage the finish and /or color of the gemstones. If you do find it necessary to use a chemical tarnish remover, use a cotton swap and avoid getting the solution on the gemstones. Rinse in water immediately and let the jewelry air dry.

Where do you get the metaphysical information on the gemstones?

Folklore about stones has been revered and honored for centuries in all cultures. The information is available on various websites, and there are many rock, gemstone, and lapidary books available.
